Network Attached IP Camera Comparison Chart

IP Camera

The following chart compares the features and benefits of many of the IP cameras available. Pricing examples are provided to give you some idea of the cost to performace ratio of the camera. Remember that your system includes more than just the camera. Take a look at the compatible storage, enclosures, lenses and software you need to create a complete IP surveillance system.

Note that special purpose analog CCTV cameras, like thermal imaging cameras, can be attached to the network using a Camera Server.
Important specifications
to consider when selecting the camera:

Compression:
Note that some cameras use M-JPEG compression, others use MPEG-4 compression and some can use both. See the article "What are MPEG and JPEG formats and What's better" for more about these different compression schemes.
Resolution of the camera will determine the detail you can see in a specific field of view.

Light sensitivity will determine how well the camera can see in darkness. For example a camera with a 1 lux sensitivity can operate in full moon light.
